Series Descriptions

Series 1:  Local Chapter AAUP, 1960s-1990s (4 boxes, 31 folders)

This series contains materials pertaining to the operations of the MTSU chapter of the AAUP.  The correspondence subseries includes documents circulated within the chapter and the university.  Particular issues concerning the local chapter make up the second subseries, Issues, and covers areas such as academic rights and freedoms, the status of women, compensation, religion, salary, and tenure, among others.  A subseries of organizational paperwork encompasses meeting minutes and agendas, financial records, constitutions and by-laws, and rosters.  A final subseries includes various reports and resolutions made by the local chapter.

Series 2:  State Conference AAUP, 1966-1995 (1 box, 8 folders)

The state conference series includes MTSU chapter correspondence with other university chapters, state conferences, and the State of Tennessee (governmental).  It also contains retrenchment policies for various universities, State of Tennessee senate bills, tenure bills, and legislative reports.  The organizational paperwork for the Tennessee state division of the AAUP, along with some of its many circulations, is also within this series. 

Series 3:  National Conference AAUP, 1966-1995 (1 box, 4 folders)

The National Conference of the AAUP series encompasses national meeting information, reports, and organizational forms.  In addition to a few of the national AAUP yearly membership draft kits, this series contains MTSU local chapter correspondence with the AAUP headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Series 4:  Publications, 1965-1995 (2 boxes, 17 folders)

The Publications series contains four subseries representing local chapter, state conference/chapter conference, national conference, and other publications.  The state and national divisions of the AAUP published the bulk of these materials, although several related interest publications and articles are within the last subseries.
