Historical Sketch

The American Association of University Professors is a national organization that advocates for the rights of and issues important to collegiate and university faculty members all over the country.  The organization’s overall purpose is “to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good.”  Divided into state and local chapters, the AAUP seeks to protect academic freedom, promote shared governance, defend diversity, and support collective bargaining techniques most particularly.
