Hollon Series Description

Series 1: Subject Files (2 boxes, 25 folders)
This series encompasses the majority of the collection materials. Newspaper clippings, brochures, commemorative materials, correspondence letters, and other war-related information are here divided into categories such as D-Day History, D-Day Commemorations, World War II History, World War II Commemorations, and Miscellany. The bulk of subject file materials relate to modern commemoration efforts via anniversaries and the erection of monuments and memorials.

Series 2: Magazines & Newspapers (2 boxes, 9 folders)
War-related magazines and entire editions of newspapers form this series. The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Retired Officer, and The Twenty-Niner are more current magazines that examine the consequences and recollections of World War II. Newspapers such as The Stars and Stripes are entirely devoted to veterans’ interest. Yank magazine dates from the 1940s. In addition, the collection contains a folder of more current magazine article clippings dealing solely with persons, places, and events of World War II.

Series 3: Books
Mr. Hollon donated nine books from his personal collection, all of which are concerned with war-stricken 1940s France. Publication dates range from 1958 to 2003.

Series 4: Videos
The Longest Day and Headline Stories of the Century: A Newsreel Library of World War II are the two videos constituting this series. The first movie presents an hour-by-hour recreation of the Allied Invasion of France, while the second presents 84 carefully edited, B&W Hearst newsreels from the dramatic combat footage of World War II.

Series 5: Posters
Mr. Hollon created two of the posters in this series from photographs that he took during a commemorative trip back to Europe. Personal recollections caption these two beautiful pictures of Omaha Beach and the American Military Cemetery in Normandy, France. Two posters, one detailing the events at Omaha Beach on D-Day and the other a roster of Hollon’s military division, are also in this series. These are currently being stored in the oversize section of the archive.
