Biographical Sketch

Sergeant James Calvin Hollon donated his collection of World War II related materials to the Albert Gore Sr. Research Center in November 2005.  A Nashville native, Mr. Hollon served in World War II at the young age of nineteen in Company M, 129th Infantry/29th Division.  He fought on the beaches of Normandy during monumental D-Day, aiding in the invasion of France and the rescue of its citizens from the Axis Powers.  His participation in this globally consequential event never escaped his thoughts; throughout the remainder of his life, Mr. Hollon collected various articles and publications dealing with D-Day in particular and World War II in general.  Honored as a local hero, this retired military man passed away in March 2006 at the age of 81.
