Phyllis Hickerson Washington shares memories from her time as an Upward Bound student at MTSU, her years as a college student, and her current work with the Rutherford County School System..

"At that particular time, if you were going to participate in any organization on campus, it was the Black Student Union.  I mean that was THE organization.  All of the other, none of the sororities or fraternities had formed, and so the main organization was the Black Student Union.  There were many activities, and I was just reading one of them had to do with the 'All-Sing.'  That was the first time a Black organization had participated in 'All-Sing.'  I remember we received honorable mention and were just thrilled to death."
