| Jane Maxwell Tucker was the second female student body
president at MTSU. She attended MTSTC during WWII and shares
memories from that time on campus.
"After December 7th, it was if a shade was pulled, I guess, or a blind drawn closed. People became more serious, there was less laughter, more subdued conversation, apprehension of what is this, where are we, what's to be, how long can this exist. And then we would miss this and this person. So everything's color was lost, purpose was lost. Because the only purpose might be, what can I do, what is to be, what should I contribute, not, do I have my class, am I prepared for my class, and I think this included the teachers. I believe their expectations dropped, their demands mellowed, because they were having the same reactions emotionally that we were."
