Harold Smith shares memories of his association with MTSU
since 1963.
"I recall when this building opened, this is the Keathley University Center, opened in what, '67 or so. I was a graduate student here at that time and I was the night manager of this facility. And one of the rules for this building was that we were not to permit females, now I didn't say students, I said females, into this building in pants, with pants. And, you know, looking back on that now, that's so funny, that's so strange. And I almost got into trouble with a family who'd come to see their daughter -- father and mother -- and she brought them to the University Center, and this was on one evening and this mother, who was a very attractive lady, had on a beautiful pantsuit. And we had to ask her to leave. Well we also, I thought, we were going to have to ship the husband there. And I can understand that. I think I would have been just a vehement about it as he was. Those rules, once they started changing, they all changed in a hurry."
