John Rucker |
John Rucker tells about meeting his wife, Betty, through
letters written during WWII.
"He, [Jeb] said, "John, you remember what Lyle said about finding a girl for you?" I said "Yeah, I remember." He said, "Well, we've got the girl for you down in Houston, Texas. Her name is Betty Wolfe. She's just the one for you. She loves to party. She's a beautiful girl. She's the best dancer I've ever seen. And you're a good dancer. Ya'll will just have a great time together." He said, "Why don't you write her?" I said, "Well, you write her a letter introducing me and I will." So, he wrote her a letter, I wrote her a letter, we mailed it to Betty. Took about three or four weeks to get to her. She got the letter and she didn't even remember that they had told her they had picked out the person for her to marry, but she remembered Jeb and Lyle. She responded. And I've got all those letters back here. Betty saved every letter that I wrote and a copy of every one that she wrote." |
