Murfreesboro mayor, Richard Reeves, remembers General Douglas
MacArthur's visit to Murfreesboro in 1951.
"In my front yard at 407 East Main when General MacArthur came to Murfreesboro that was a great day. I remember we had--because of where we were on Main Street and were going to be right where the parade was going to come down we had people that we had not heard from in a long time that wonted to come to our house to view the parade. My mother fixed up trays of food and she closed her shop for the day. This whole town closed down for the day. This was one of the biggest events that you could ever imagine." |
