No picture available Ella and Houston Overton share memories from their childhood years in Rutherford County.

| Ella: There was a dentist that lived in Murfreesboro
and when I lived out on Salem Pike, he would come out there and get the
younger children and bring them to First Baptist Church. He did this
all over Rutherford County. [His name was] Dr. James R. Patterson.
He was a dentist.....That's where he belonged and he was superintendent of
Sunday school. He went all over Murfreesboro and Rutherford County
bringing in the children.

Houston: [Moved to Murfreesboro in 1940] They had just built the VA hospital and they started opening up in December of '39 and my father came here to go to work at the VA Hospital. That's how we got to Murfreesboro. We just knew they built the hospital and Daddy was loaned to the job. He did construction work. He was a bricklayer, a concrete man, and so he came in at the VA Hospital and so he came in at the VA Hospital and they planted all those cedar trees around the VA Hospital. Those that outline the campus 600 acres, well, they planted all those cedar trees. |
