| Harold McCracken recalls an incident during his service in
WWII.
"And then we heard a racket coming down the street, you know, other side of this thing. Remember these old ---the German soldiers had like a horseshoe over the sole, heel back here, metal. You remember the old goose steppers, have you seen those things? That's what they was hitting the streets with. You remember the legs going up and coming back down? That was metal. All of them had that on it. So they came on down. They got closer, you could hear them speaking in German. No sound at all. Just waiting for the sergeant to give us the instructions. He didn't want to kill them, I guess. But they went on down and went on out of hearing distance and went back this other way."
