Jacob McClenny was a B-17 pilot in WWII and shares memories from his early missions.

"The first mission, as I said, was undercast and we missed the target so two days later we went back to the same target and it was clear.  Because it was clear rather than bombing with thirty-six airplanes we split up.  Each squadron of twelve airplanes went in individually and that flack was terrific.  It was really tearing up up and although nobody on our airplane got hurt we did get holes in the airplane.  But we were the only one to make it back to the base that night.  The other aircraft were either shot down or had problems and went into another place and landed."
