"Nowadays, one thing you notice on campus these days when you go over there, everybody has a backpack, just about.  Wouldn't nobody even dream of having a backpack in those days.  If you had a backpack, you'd be a real nerd or a geek.  Nobody would even think about having something un-cool like a backpack.  You had your book in your hand and pencil behind your ear or whatever, and you slide rule on your belt if you were so inclined and walk across campus like that.  But nobody would ever dream of having a backpack.  That would be really taboo."
