| John Helton was taken prisoner at the Battle of the
Bulge. He shares memories from Stalag 9-B.
"I had a little Testament. I don't remember where I got it, but it had a steel plate on it and I always wore it in my left pocket. It's suppose to protect your heart from getting hit from light shrapnel, was the purpose. But I'd get my little Testament out and I'd read and I'd read. Sometimes at night I'd say the Lord's Prayer or I repeated the Twenty-Third Psalm night after night to myself, just to keep from going crazy." |
