"You don't change attitudes over night.  You don't legislate attitudes.  What you do is that attitudes develop themselves through relationships, and we in the disability community have got to cross over, as I say, to the other side and show folks what we can do, that we can make contributions to society.  We can't be recipients of handouts.  We have to be people who hand out things, which is why that I chose to go out and do, say, for instance, I'm the area director of Special Olympics."
