Jim Free discusses his time as MTSU Student Body President
and his career in politics.
"There had been some racial incident. [. . .] Mel and Caroline Scarlett [. . .] go to the front of the house, and on the porch and in the front yard was a group--a lot--of Black students, and they were upset. They wanted to talk about it. So Dr. Scarlett went out [. . .] and talked with them until about two in the morning--listened to all their grievances and promised to help work toward a solution of whatever this problem was. The good story here is that, several months later, they looked out, and the same group of students were there, but it was Christmas, and they had come to sing Christmas carols." |
