World War II

Paris Brewer explains the impact of World War II on his life:

"...anybody that was in combat, it definitely made a change in them and won't ever leave them; they'll never forget.  I mean, you know, just certain things that stay with you, and it changes your way of life.  You think different, and I guess do different and stuff that way.  But it don't ever leave you.  Of course, I was lucky; I made it back.  Not too much about what I did, but what really hurts you is the ones, you know, see there especially in the infantry, you're like brothers, you know.  Everybody, you felt just like a brother to them.  You would have did anything for 'em that you could have did for a brother, and they would you.  And so many of them that didn't come back.  The ones that you know, you know what I mean, you was in close contact with them and maybe over them as their leader and everything that way, and you had to lead them into stuff and get them not to come back, you know.  Stuff that way."
