Maye Taylor shares a story about playing basketball for Eagleville School..

I wore wool socks, red wine socks, with an elastic under the foot to hold the leggings on.  Then I had a sock over that, a white sock to make my red and white.  They came over your knee, way over your knee, the stocking did.  Then we had bloomers.  I never played in anything but bloomers.  Then we had a vest that was white with long sleeves.  Wasn't any skin there.  Bloomers were over the socks.  I'll tell you an incident that happened at Central one night in a tournament.  We were playing Woodbury and they came out in pants just like the boys were wearing.  Elaine was on the team with me and she rolled her socks down and pulled those bloomers up high.  I was the captain of the team and I told her, "You better roll them back up, honey, they'll get us."  Well she didn't pay any attention to me.  I was the captain of the team and I was supposed to tell her what to do, but she didn't.  So when the coach came inside the dressing room he said, "Elaine, you roll your clothes up like they're supposed to be and get out there on that floor."  She rolled them up and she never did do it again.  Then it wasn't long till Murfreesboro came out with shorts on.  But I never did get to play in them.  I always played in bloomers.
