Series Descriptions

Series 1: Education, 1951-1970 (78 folders, 6 items)

 This series is broken down into five sub-series: Children’s Speech and Drama, Cooperative English, Curriculum Materials, Elementary School, and Miscellaneous. Children’s Speech and Drama series contains information on how to teach children speech and drama by providing exercises and activities on storytelling, pantomime, puppet plays and children’s poetry.  The Cooperative English series is composed of practice tests, student papers, notebooks and lesson plans related to the MTSC Cooperative English program. The Curriculum Materials and Elementary School series contain correspondence, notes, class record books, lesson plans, and various other materials collected by or written by Marguerite Boutwell. The Miscellaneous series includes other education related materials such as a 4-H scrapbook, articles on Christian Education, and National Education Association newsletters. Documents in each series are arranged alphabetically.

 

Series 2: Miscellaneous, 1938-1969 (13 folders, 8 items)

This series contains notes, books, certificates, and University publications such as Collage, the Sidelines, and L’enfant. This series also contains separation sheets for the photographs that have been relocated to the University Photo Collection-Boutwell (box 23-01). Additionally, a Bible given to P.A. Lyon in 1938 can be found in box 7.   Various certificates and the following books are also found within this series: Memorial Addresses on the Life and Character of Robert Love Taylor, The Art of Living, and The First Fifty Years: Middle Tennessee State College, 1911-1961. The folders within this series are all arranged alphabetically.

 

Series 3: Religion, 1939-1973 (8 folders)

This series consists of notes, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and Sunday school activities.  Many of the documents within this series pertain to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro, TN. The folders are all arranged alphabetically.

 

Series 4: Sam Davis Development Corporation, 1955-1978 (25 folders)

This series contains blueprints, contracts, correspondence, and Veterans Administration documents relating to the development of the Meadow Brook subdivision in Smyrna, TN.  The folders are all arranged alphabetically.

 

Series 5: Sam Davis Home, 1911-1954 (3 folders, 16 items)

This series consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, interviews and notes related to the life of Sam Davis and commemorative pageants preformed at the Sam Davis Home.  A large portion of this series is composed of the interviews and notes of S.C. Evins of Murfreesboro, TN (box 7).  This series also contains a book entitled Sam Davis: Confederate Hero, 1842-1863 by Edyth Johns Rucker Whitley. The folders within this series are all arranged alphabetically and S.C. Evins notebooks have been left in their original order.

 

Series 6: Theatre, 1947-1965 (6 folders,1 item)

The items in this series include advertisements, playbills and notes related to Buchanan Dramatic Club Players productions.  This series also contains a scrapbook of plays directed by Lane Boutwell.  The folders are all arranged alphabetically.
