SERIES DESCRIPTIONS

SERIES 1: Class Materials, 1978-1986, (96 Folders)
The items in this series contain various tests, notes, and handouts from different English courses that were taught by Beasley.

SERIES 2: Literature & Poems, 1970s-1980s (16 Folders)
The materials in this series are arranged in alphabetical order and relate to selected works of American literature that were used in Beasley’s courses.

SERIES 3: Authors, 1970s-1980s (21 Folders)
Some of the items in this series include notes, newspaper clippings and writings related to various American literary writers and poets.

SERIES 4: Literary Periods & Themes, 1970s-1980s (9 Folders)
The items in this series contain notes, historical background and other information pertaining to certain periods in American literary history. Some of the times included are Colonial and Revolutionary America, the American Renaissance, and Romantic Prose and Poetry.

SERIES 5: Correspondence, 1955-1972 (3 Folders)
This series contains various correspondences that William Beasley received from various people regarding his research on William March.

SERIES 6: Miscellaneous A-Z, 1937-1985 (19 Folders)
This series has a wide assortment of materials relating to MTSU history or the English Department at MTSU. Some of the notable items in this series are: the dedications of Kirksey Old Main and Peck Hall, Homecoming 1984/85, conferences of the Tennessee College English Conference from 1947 to 1963 and the renovation of the Alumni Memorial Gym.

SERIES 7: English Conference, 1947-1979 (23 Folders)
This series has materials related to various English Association Conferences. Some of the conferences that are represented in this series include the South Atlantic Association of Departments in English, the Tennessee College English Association, and the Tennessee Council of Teachers of English.

SERIES 8: MTSU Alumni Materials, 1984-86 (7 Folders)
This series has Alumni banquet programs from 1984-1986. Also it has Alumni board memorandums and minutes that discuss the development of the Alumni Center on campus.

SERIES 9: MTSU Foundation, 1984-85 (5 Folders)
Items in this series relate to the preparation and establishment of a committee for the 75th anniversary of MTSU. Also, the series contains a giving structure study during the years of 1984 and 1985.

SERIES 10: MTSU Continuing Education, 1973-74 (2 Folders)
This series has items that relate to continuing education at MTSU, such as data relating to off-site registration places and off-site courses taught in nearby towns. Most of the data collected was for a Southern Association of Colleges and Universities report. In addition, the series has materials on Eagle University from 1973. Eagle University Consortium was designed to satisfy educational needs of the military personnel. The original members of the Eagle University Consortium included: Austin Peay State University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Hopkinsville Community College, Middle Tennessee State University, Murray State University, Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee at Nashville, and Western Kentucky University.

SERIES 11: MTSU DA Program, 1970s (4 Folders)
This series includes a brochure announcing the new degree program, as well as items Beasley collected from other universities and colleges that had a Doctorate of Arts program. In addition, the series contains various theories for the establishment of a Doctorate of Arts degree.

SERIES 12: MTSU English Department, 1967-1985 (5 Folders)
The items in this series include listings of English majors from 1967-1971, materials related to the graduate program in English and writing samples of participants in the Frazier Award for writing.

SERIES 13: MTSU Faculty, 1982-1985 (7 Folders)
Some of the materials in this series include faculty handbook revision notes from 1984, dean and chairman evaluation forms, faculty senate memos, and items regarding promotion and tenure procedures.

SERIES 14: MTSU Self-Study, 1972-73 (2 Folders)
This series has numerous materials that were collected and compiled by various MTSU people in order to do a self-study for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the series contains a copy of volume one of MTSU’s self studies that was published in 1972.

SERIES 15: MTSU Students, 1976-1986 (5 Folders)
This series contains items that relate to various students who majored in English at MTSU. Some of the items include Beasley’s recommendations for students for graduate school or law school.

SERIES 16: Personal, 1927-1986 (31 Folders)
This series contains a variety of materials that were collected by William Beasley and his father N.C. Beasley. Some of the notable items in this series include: a library handbook of MTSC, 1930s newspaper clippings regarding MTSTC Football, and a copy of the Winter 1978 edition of the Mid-Stater that features Dean N.C. Beasley being honored at Homecoming.

SERIES 17: Writings & Research, 1955-1986 (20 Folders)
This series has rough drafts of William Beasley’s thesis and dissertation. In addition, there are various essays that Beasley wrote as a graduate and materials he used in researching.

SERIES 18: Books, 1967-1971, (16 items)
This series has a variety of literature books that belonged to William Beasley. Some of the titles in the series include: Studies in Short Fiction, Beowulf, Main Themes in American Literature, and A College Book of American Literature.
