1943     Name changes to Middle Tennessee State College
 
1944   MTSC has lowest enrollment in its history: 20 men and 180 women
 
1947   Charles M. Murphy ('38) becomes football coach, "the winningest ever"
 
1951    "Vet Village," first married student housing, built for WWII veterans on G.I. Bill; second men's dorm built and named Smith Hall
1952    Student Union Building completed;   First Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees awarded
 
1954   Women's dorm Monohan Hall built and named for Katherine Monohan
 
1958   Quill Evan Cope becomes fourth president, serves until 1968; Andrew L. Todd Library dedicated
 
1959 Saunders Fine Arts Building completed and dedicated; Homer Pittard ('36), alumni secretary launches The Mid-Stater, named by Bob Womack ('48)
 
1960  "Distinguished Alumni" program initiated
 
1961   Golden Anniversary celebration includes new alma mater, written by Doug Williams ('53), and The First Fifty Years, a history of the institution by Homer Pittard ('36); Randy Wood ('41), Whitney Stegall ('37), Homer Pittard ('36), Dean N.C. Beasley, and President Cope begin The Foundation
 
1962   Olivia Woods is first African/American student
