Scope and Content
The materials in the Rutherford County Historical Society collection are divided into two distinct groups, each having its own set of series.
The first group is the RCHS Records, which include organizational records, publications created by the RCHS, audio tapes, and microfilm. These records span the years 1966 to 1999. The organizational records are made up of RCHS founding documents, minutes, financial statements, awards, and membership records. The publications include the “Numbered Publications”, Frow Chips, as well as camera ready (proofs) for many of the Numbered Publications and other publications that the RCHS has produced. The audio cassettes contain various oral histories and speeches and the microfilm consists of Rutherford County wills and church records.
The second group is the RCHS Collection, and unlike the Records group, it consists of materials collected rather than created by the RCHS. The dates range from the mid-19th century to late 20th century, with the vast majority being from the 1970s. This RCHS Collection includes publications, subject files with topics pertaining to Rutherford County and the surrounding area, scrapbooks, newspapers, memorabilia, maps, business ledgers, and Rutherford County municipal records.
