SCOPE AND CONTENT

The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro is a nonpartisan organization that encourages active participation in government through a variety of programs and initiatives. The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro collection includes correspondence, reports, membership lists, clippings, minutes, surveys, and other documentation of the last fifty years in Murfreesboro. The collection primarily documents the activities of the local league from the organization’s founding in 1957 to the 1990s but much material is contained documenting the local league’s interaction with the League of Women Voters of Tennessee and the League of Women Voters of the United States.  Examples of Murfreesboro league activities and issues documented are various election forums, education, land use and zoning, sign ordnances, environmental issues, the Equal Rights Amendment, and reproductive choice.
