BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Phi Epsilon, the first social fraternity at Middle Tennessee State University, was organized in 1961. It was initially based in the home of Richard A. Barnes at the corner of Mercury and Tennessee Boulevard. In October of 1966, Phi Epsilon was the first fraternity recognized on the MTSU campus. In February of 1969, Phi Epsilon became the Delta Lambda chapter of the national fraternity Kappa Alpha.
Kappa Alpha was first organized in 1866 at Washington College in Lexington, Virginia. Robert E. Lee was president of the college at the time, and was a valued role model for the founding members of Kappa Alpha.
