BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

The Olen Hutchison Clemency Team was formed in 2003.  Mary E. Vancura was the clemency campaign coordinator.  The Clemency Team constructed a website, conducted fundraising, and engaged in a variety of promotion and outreach activities designed to bring attention to the “lack of equal justice” in the Olen Hutchison case.

Olen E. Hutchison was convicted of the first-degree murder of Hugh Huddleston in 1990 and sentenced to death in 1991.  All of the six co-defendants, including three that were present at the scene of the crime, received lesser sentences.  Mr. Hutchison was in another county at the time of the crime.

Mr. Hutchison contacted the Tennessee Innocence Project for help in 2001 after his conviction.

Mr. Hutchison’s execution was scheduled for March 2004, but he received a stay of execution in January 2004.  The final outcome is yet to be determined.
