Biographical Sketch
Dot Harrison (MTSU BA ’62, MA ’72) was Director of Development and Communications Marketing at MTSU from 1974 until her retirement in December of 2000. During her career, she received three awards: an international award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for the program she began for retired faculty members at MTSU, the Otis Floyd Award from the Tennessee College Public Relations Association and the first Outstanding Public Service Award for a staff member given by MTSU. Before her time as the Director of Development and Communications Marketing, Harrison spent two years as a graduate student and English teacher and spent four years as an editor and writer for the Daily News Journal. She also led media relations for twenty years before moving to the Development Office in March of 1996. Harrison was extremely active in both the MTSU and Murfreesboro community; she was campus coordinator of the Volunteer Girls State summer program, was involved with the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, participated in the Tennessee Press Association, and was chair of the Cultural Arts Commission.
