Biographical Note

 

Cecil Flowers joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1940 at the age of 16.  He was involved in building parks or soil conservation projects through several different camps.  Mr. Flowers used his CCC experience to join the Army Air Force in 1942.  In the 1980s and early 1990s, Cecil Flowers directed an effort to have monuments placed in each of the Tennessee parks built with CCC labor.
